There are some bands where you hear the first few seconds of a song and immediately know you're in for something loud.

Basement is one of those bands.

Following their May release of their latest album “Wired” and a tour run across Australia and New Zealand, it was time Basement set out for a US tour of their own. The Ipswich group kicked off their North American WIRED tour at Brooklyn Paramount, bringing along Febuary, Big Boy, and Momma to open the night, and New York came prepared.

WIRED marks Basement's first full-length album in eight years. Released earlier this year, the album feels like a continuation of everything that made Basement such a standout in the first place — heavy guitars, huge melodies, and that ability to sound both aggressive and strangely atmospheric at the same time.

And live, those songs hit differently.

The show opened with "Time Waster" before moving into "Deadweight" and "The Way I Feel." From there, the band worked through a set that pulled from throughout their catalog, including "Covet," "Spoiled," "Brother's Keeper," "Aquasun," "Whole," "Sever," "Head Alight," "Broken by Design," and "Pine."

There's something about seeing a band like Basement in a room like Brooklyn Paramount. The venue is massive enough to make the production feel huge, but it still manages to keep that sense of being surrounded by people who showed up because they genuinely care about the music.

Just loud guitars, pounding drums, and a room full of people screaming along. The sounds of Ipswich met Brooklyn for an amazing party.
