The solo dancer. The rebel yeller.

Yet another show where the threat of storms almost shut things down just minutes before start. Flashes of lightning just over the trees, rumbles of thunder, puddles everywhere from rain that had just rolled through; but it clearly wasn’t a storm…

It was Billy Idol arriving to party with a packed-out crowd at the Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater at Virginia Beach to mark another stop along his “It’s a Nice Day to… Tour Again!” tour.

The show opened with an energetic set from Devo which quickly drew the full crowd to their seats to start the party. Playing hits like "Whip It" and "Uncontrollable Urge," Devo set the crowd into a frenzy with their wild stage antics and crazy visual displays, flower pot hats and all... which yes, were tossed out to the audience.

From his iconic lip snarl to talking with the audience, giving back-story to some of his tracks, Idol transported the amphitheater back to the 80s playing hit after hit including “Rebel Yell,” “Dancing With Myself,” and of course, “White Wedding.”

The wizard guitar work from Steve Stevens, the awesome lighting and stage display, the full sound from the backing vocals… the crowd rocked and danced all night with Idol and company.

Having grown up listening to White Wedding on cassette many times while riding around in our family van, this show was full-circle to be able to attend and photograph.
